A 1985 dystopian dark comedy directed by Terry Gilliam. It follows Sam Lowry, a low-level bureaucrat in a nightmarish, overly-regulated future society, as he dreams of escaping to a better world and falls for a woman who embodies his ideal. His pursuit of her and his attempts to rectify a bureaucratic error entangle him with both a mysterious woman and a rogue repairman, leading to conflict with the oppressive system. The film explores themes of totalitarianism, bureaucracy, and the power of dreams and imagination in a bleak, technologically advanced world.
