Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Red Dirt Film Club a commercial organisation?

No, the Red Dirt Film Club Inc. (RDFC) is a not-for-profit organisation run by a dedicated group of volunteers. Membership fees are used to cover expenses incurred in running the club such as paying for film rights, website and domain name fees, printing and upgrading projection equipment.

Are the films available to the general public?

Film screenings are restricted to members and their guests.

We are a non-profit organisation showing films as a registered member of the Australian Film Society Federation, which prohibits charging for single screenings. However, membership is available to all members of the public, and each annual membership entitles the member to three guest passes.

How much does it cost?

The 2025 Membership fee is $40 per year. New members pay a $5 fee to cover administrative costs.

How do I join?

You can join by completing the membership form on the Membership page and making a bank transfer for payment. Alternatively, you can join up and pay by cash or card at one of our screenings. Make sure to arrive early to complete the form and make payment before the start of the screening!

Where are the films screened?

We are privileged to be able to partner with The Palace Hotel and Silver City Cinema to screen our films. Location, dates and times are available in Upcoming Films.

How do I know what films will be screening?

Film screenings for the 2025 year are available in Upcoming Films. Please note that while we make all efforts to show the films advertised, there may be circumstances beyond our control that prevent us from obtaining screening rights. In those circumstances, we will advise our members as soon as possible and ensure an appropriate alternative film is shown.

Who chooses the films?

The RDFC committee aim to choose quality films that are from a variety of genres and countries. When completing a membership form, there is the opportunity to let us know what types of films you like, which we take into account. We are also looking at future surveys to ensure that we cover our members’ interests while still providing the opportunity to see films that can expand your horizons.

Can I make suggestions for future films?

The RDFC committee loves input from club members. Feel free to email us your suggestions as follows:

  • Name of film;

  • Director;

  • Awards received (if any);

  • Length and the reason you believe it would be appreciated by our members.

If possible, include a link to the film trailer. Thank you!
