National Indian Film Festival of Australia(NIFFA) coming to Broken Hill

NIFFA 2026 will bring you the very best of Indian cinema — from regional and independent voices to mainstream icons. This year, it is not just the capital cities who will be able to see this festival, but it is coming to regional centres as well - and Broken Hill has its turn 12-14 June.

Keep an eye on the NIFFA website for more details:

New membership options

Due to the transient population of Broken Hill, we are introducing a new ‘seasonal’ membership for those who are only in the town for a short time. For the low cost of $29 (which includes joining fee), you can attend films for showing for the period of four months. This new membership will be available from 6 May 2026.

  • Season 1 - Jan to April

  • Season 2 - May to August

  • Season 3 - September to December

Visit our membership page for more information.

Broken Hill City Council Grant

We are pleased to announce that Broken Hill City Council has awarded us a grant to purchase a large portable screen. We are planning to purchase this screen in the next couple of months which will allow us to expand the number of venues that we are able to use for showing films. We are in discussions with The Broken Hill Repertory Society with the hope of creating special event screenings at Theatre 44.

2026 Membership fees

Fees for 2026 have been increased to $50 for annual membership. The joining fee remains at $5.00. If you are a current member, $50 will allow you to see all the great films that we show next year, as well as three guest passes. For new members, the initial payment will be $55.00. Due to the unavoidable cancellation of the film Hugo last year, there are additional discounts for members who joined in October or November. Visit our Membership page for all the details.

Payment for 2026 fees can be made on line or in person at the next movie.

Transgrid Grant

As part of Transgrid’s Community Partnership Program, we have been fortunate to receive a grant to upgrade the DVD/BluRay player and associated equipment for films showing outside the cinema, and also a portable PA system which will enable film discussions and announcements to be heard easily.
