A Dublin street busker (Glen Hansard) and a Czech immigrant (Markéta Irglová) bond over their shared love of music, writing and recording songs together during a week in Dublin. Once portrays their bittersweet, blossoming romance.
Directed by John Carney, Once (2007) is a minimalist, modern-day musical that captures a fleeting connection between two nameless musicians on the streets of Dublin. Shot on a shoestring budget of roughly $150,000 using digital cameras, the film avoids traditional Hollywood polish in favor of a raw, "video album" aesthetic.
The music was written by the two stars and won numerous awards, including the Oscar for best song ‘Falling Slowly’.
Winner of Audience choice at Sundance Film Festival and was awarded Irish film of the decade.
